Social proof notifications

Proof that your website is not a ghost town.

The same visitor, on two versions of your page.

Nothing about your traffic changes. What changes is how much a first-time visitor can tell about you before they decide — whether anybody else has bought, what they said afterwards, and how many people are on the page right now.

Free under 1,000 visitors a month · no card to start · live in two minutes

Start your 14 days.

Your own account, live on your site before you decide anything. No card, and nothing you set up is deleted if you stop.

  • Live in about two minutes
  • One line to paste, on any platform
  • Cancel from the dashboard, not by email

Start your 14 days

Your own workspace, and a key to paste before you decide anything.

Continue with Google
or use your email

No card needed. After 14 days the notifications stop unless you subscribe — nothing is deleted.

How it works

Five steps, and the longest one is choosing a colour.

If you have ever pasted a tracking pixel onto a website, you have already done the hard part of this.

1

Create your workspace

Name, email, password. About a minute, and no card.

2

Paste it on your site

We give you a line to copy. Paste it into your site the way you would a Facebook Pixel. Works on every platform, and no developer needed.

3

Connect what it shows

Connect your Google reviews, switch on your sales, write your own guarantee notices. Tick which of the three you want showing.

4

Set the rhythm

Which corner, how long before the first one, the gap between them, how long each stays, and how many a visitor sees before it stops.

5

Watch it work

Every site shows its own loads and when it was last seen, so a page that quietly stopped showing them is visible rather than assumed.

How it works

Three kinds of notification.

Every one is either a real event in your business or a review somebody actually left.

Live sales notifications

Recent purchases and signups, with the timing they actually happened at, so a card that says twelve minutes ago means twelve minutes ago. Only the company or first name is shown — never the email or phone number on the record.

Google review popups

Pulled from your Google Business Profile, with the star rating, the reviewer’s own words and a Google label on the card. You choose the minimum rating. Nobody types these, including us.

Guarantee and announcement notices

The money-back guarantee, free delivery over £50, the no-card-needed line — the reassurance a hesitating buyer needs to read at the moment they are hesitating.

Sales popups

Recent sales notifications, from your real orders.

The card that says somebody bought this an hour ago is the one that does the work. Ours is wired straight to your orders, so an hour ago means an hour ago and the name on it is a real customer of yours.

Where the data comes from

Your ordersShopify, WooCommerce

Every sale shows up on its own, the moment somebody buys.

Your signupsconnected the same way

A trial started, a call booked, a form filled in — each one a card.

Your reviewsstraight from Google

Your Google rating and the words your customers actually wrote.

Only a first name or company and a town are ever published. The email address and phone number on the order never leave your account, whatever you send us.

Review popups

Your Google reviews, on your own website.

Most businesses have earned reviews that only ever get read on a Maps listing nobody visits. This puts them in front of the person deciding right now.

Connecting them

  • Search for your business by name and click it — that is the whole connection
  • Choose the minimum star rating that may appear
  • We refresh daily, and keep the last good list if Google has a bad morning
  • Trustpilot is built and switches on as soon as our account is live

The card shows the reviewer’s own words, their rating, and a Google label — so the visitor knows where it came from and could go and check.

Why you cannot type one

There is no box in this product for writing a review yourself. It is the one thing we will not build, because a review names a real customer on a public page and a text box is an invitation to invent one.

If a review is showing on your site, somebody left it. That is the entire value of the thing — and it is why the source is printed on the card rather than hidden.

Signal Sources

Six places a card can come from. All of them yours.

Your orders, your signups, your Google reviews, the people on the page right now, the week’s running total, and the guarantees you wrote. Nothing here is invented, and nothing comes from anybody else.

No impression or conversion figures of our own on this page. SignalProof is new, and a number nobody can check is exactly what this product exists to replace.

What the research actually says

So instead of ours, here is everybody else’s — the three studies worth the name, with the effect sizes, the journals, and the one that tried to repeat the famous result and could not. If we are going to ask you to put checkable proof on your site, our own evidence had better be checkable too.

  1. Telling diners which dishes were most ordered raised demand for them 13–20%.

A randomised field experiment in a Chinese restaurant chain: some tables were handed a menu insert listing the five most popular dishes, others an insert naming five dishes with no popularity claim. Orders for the listed dishes rose 13 to 20 per cent — and only when the ranking was on it, which is how the authors separate “other people chose this” from “this was simply printed where I could see it”. Diners also rated the meal more highly.

  2. A sign saying most guests already do it beat the environmental appeal: 44.1% against 35.1%.

The towel-reuse study everyone half-remembers. Cards saying the majority of guests reuse their towels got 44.1% reuse against 35.1% for the standard save-the-planet card; a second study found a card about guests in that same room did better again, 49.3% against 37.2%. A real behaviour, counted by housekeeping, not a survey about intentions.

Goldstein, Cialdini & Griskevicius, ‘A Room with a Viewpoint’, Journal of Consumer Research 35(3), 2008, pp. 472–482
  3. And the one that failed: 928 guests in Germany, no effect at all.

A direct replication found the descriptive-norm cards (81.9% reuse) did no better than the standard environmental card (83.7%), and the same-room version did worse, not better. Baseline reuse there was already 70–90%. The honest reading: social proof moves people who have not decided yet, and does nothing when they had already made their mind up. If your visitors already trust you, this widget is not the thing to buy.

  4. Show the counts and you change which things win — 14,341 people, one music market.

Participants downloaded unknown songs, some able to see how many others had downloaded each one, some not. Seeing the counts made hits bigger and made which song became the hit far less predictable: the best songs rarely flopped and the worst rarely won, but almost anything in between could happen. Visible popularity is not a neutral label on a page. It decides things.

Salganik, Dodds & Watts, ‘Experimental Study of Inequality and Unpredictability in an Artificial Cultural Market’, Science 311(5762), 2006, pp. 854–856

None of these is a study of this widget, and we are not going to pretend otherwise by quoting one of them as our uplift. They are the reason the product exists; your own before-and-after is the only thing that settles it for your site. When we have figures of our own they will appear in the strip above, computed from live usage rather than typed in by us.

The difference

The same visitor, on two versions of your page.

Nothing about your traffic changes. What changes is how much a first-time visitor can tell about you before they decide.

Why social proof works

People buy what other people have already bought.

It is the oldest thing in selling and the least controversial finding in behavioural science: when a decision is uncertain, we look at what everybody else did.

It answers “is this real?”

The first question a visitor has about a shop they have never heard of is whether anyone else has bought from it. A notification showing a purchase from this morning answers that faster than any badge or testimonial page.

It turns a quiet page into a busy one

A website gives no sense of how many people are on it. Notifications restore the thing a physical shop has for nothing — other customers, visibly.

It only works if it is true

A notification is only persuasive while the visitor believes it. Every card here is drawn from your own orders, signups and reviews — so what it claims is something that happened, and something the visitor could go and check.

We give you a line to copy. You paste it into your website — the same box you would paste a Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel into. That is the whole installation.

Straight answers

Social proof notifications: the common questions.

What is social proof software?

Software that shows visitors what other people are doing on your website — recent purchases, recent signups and customer reviews — usually as a small notification in the corner of the page. The idea is simple: people are more willing to buy something other people have already bought.

Do social proof notifications actually increase conversions?

They can, when what they show is true and relevant. A visitor who sees three people bought this week has a reason to believe the shop is real. A visitor who notices the same invented name every four minutes has a reason to leave. SignalProof only shows real events and real reviews, which is why it is worth measuring rather than assuming.

The published evidence is real but modest — and we have put all of it on this page, effect sizes, journals and the replication that found nothing included, rather than quoting somebody’s uplift figure as if it were ours.

Will social proof popups slow my website down?

No. It loads after everything else on your page has finished, so your visitors never wait for it. If our end ever went down your site would simply carry on without the popups.

Does it work with Shopify and WooCommerce?

Yes — and WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Magento, BigCommerce and anything else. If you can paste a line into your site, it works. There is no app to install.

Do I need a cookie banner for it?

Not for this. It sets no cookies and stores nothing about your visitor beyond remembering, for that browsing session only, that they dismissed a card.

How much does it cost?

Free for up to 1,000 visitors a month, then from $25. Priced on monthly visitors. Every feature on every plan; unlimited websites on the paid ones, one on free.

Where do the reviews come from?

Your Google Business Profile. You search for your business by name, click it, and your reviews come across. The card shows the reviewer’s own words, their star rating and a Google label. Trustpilot joins them shortly.

Can I use it on several websites?

Yes — unlimited websites on every plan. Each site gets its own key, locked to its own domains, and pausing one stops its key working immediately.

What happens when the trial ends?

The notifications stop showing. Nothing is deleted — your sites, keys and settings are all still there, and subscribing switches them back on.

Can I remove the LeadSignalProof branding?

Yes, on any paid plan — take the byline off entirely, or replace it with your own name. During the free trial it stays, which is the ordinary bargain in this category and the only thing the trial is really charging you.

Can I use it on a Shopify store and still pay yearly?

Yes. We bill through Stripe directly rather than through the Shopify app store, so the annual price is open to Shopify merchants like everyone else. Apps billed inside Shopify often cannot offer one.

Do you have a free plan?

Yes — one website, 1,000 unique visitors a month, free forever, with every feature switched on. Two things it does not do: it covers a single site rather than unlimited ones, and you cannot take our name off the card — every free popup says LeadSignalProof underneath. That is the deal, and it is why the free plan is a real one rather than a crippled one: a small site gets something that genuinely works, and we get our name in front of its visitors.

Does it work on mobile?

It can, but it is off by default. A card covering a phone screen is in the way rather than persuasive.

Can I change how the notifications look?

Yes — which corner they appear in, how long before the first one, the gap between them, how long each stays, how many a visitor sees before they stop, and whether they run on mobile at all. Which of the three types run is a switch each.

How do my Shopify or WooCommerce sales get in?

You connect your shop once and orders start appearing on their own. Only a first name or company and a town are ever shown — never an email address or a phone number, whatever your shop sends us.

Can I use it on a Shopify store and still pay yearly?

Yes. We bill through Stripe directly rather than through the Shopify app store, so the annual price is available to Shopify merchants like everyone else. Apps billed inside Shopify often cannot offer one.
